WASHINGTON, D.C. - A few weeks ago, Desiree Jennings was training for a half marathon. Now, she's struggling to walk, talk and even eat.

According to the Loudoun Times-Mirror , Jennings, who has been working with theWashington Redskins as an ambassador in hopes of becoming a cheerleader since April, developed severe and possibly life-threatening side effects from getting a seasonal flu vaccine seven weeks ago at a Safeway in Reston.

Twenty-five year old Jennings says she was healthy and active and was not in a high-risk group at the time of her shot.

She says she received the vaccine to earn points for her work health plan that gives perks for each level of ‘wellness’ that is attained. It was not until ten days after she received the shot that she began to experience flu-like symptoms.

Her physical therapist at Johns Hopkins Hospital say she is suffering from dystonia, a neurological movement disorder where sustained muscle contractions cause body jerks, and abnormal or repetitive movements.

People who suffer from dystonia often are required to re-learn even the most basic routines.

It is a rare disease and is not completely understood.

“You realize your life is never going to come back the way it was,” Desiree told the Times-Mirror. “My goal in life was to one day be a CEO. Now, I don’t know if I can ever return back to work”.

The doctors STILL do not know what is wrong with this poor woman, except that she is showing side effects from the vaccine.

Dystonia is NOT a disease, it is a description, meaning she is having problems with movement and balance related to brain functioning !
It often is a side effect of drugs used to treat serious mental health problems.
So if she reported that she had movement problems, they, in effect, are saying "Yes...you are correct.You have movement problems."
Doctors use these big words to confuse us, to make us think we have not wasted our time seeing them.
DR HOUSE would say, "SO, movement problems...she cannot walk forward with out falling, but can walk backwards. What does that tell you about the brain? What areas of the brain are affected? Is this permanent or temporary Get to it, staff!"

My point is that she needs to be evaluated by a neurologist and given a full work up.
There may be a way to help treat her symptoms.

My last vaccine shot took my short term memory, gave me chronic pain thoughout my skeletal muscles that is not relieved by narcotics or NSAIDS, chronic fatigue where I would sleep 16+ hours a day, and depression.
I had to leave a well paying job and go on disability.
If they gave me a diagnosis of "memory disorder", I would have screamed at them at the top of my lungs and refused to leave!
Of course I knew that: that's why I am here!

It took 4 years of my own researching to diagnose myself with a condition called fibromyalgia.
Now I am on some medications that have taken 2 years to begin to work, as pharma is just now starting to release meds that target these symptoms.
My memory is improving, I sleep 8 -10 hours most nights, and my pain is less.
Thank you Lord!

So now the US govt publishes that veterans are coming home with fibromyalgia from all the shot that they were given.
No surprise to me.
No surprise why they now have 3 drugs that can be used for treatment.
Now they can make money from all those veterans.

I heard Dr Bill Deagle describing what she has on his radio show at GCNlive.com, as experimental allergic encephalomyelitis, (EAE). I'm pretty sure that is what he called it. He said that there are means to stem the progression of the disease and he suggested that she contact him asap for information.

PLEASANTON, Calif. – Safeway Inc. has begun offering seasonal flu shots at its U.S. stores, with the vaccines being provided at what the company calls "a substantial savings" versus doctor-administered inoculations.

The food and drug retailer said Wednesday the shots will be offered now through March 2010, or while supplies last. Most of the stores will provide the vaccines on a walk-in basis, and others will do so through scheduled flu vaccine clinics.

In addition, Safeway is providing an off-site flu clinic service in most states for businesses, senior centers and nursing homes, enabling employees and residents to receive a flu vaccine where they work or live.

Safeway did not disclose the cost of a vaccine in its announcement nor on the immunization services page of its pharmacy web site. But the company said a seasonal flu shot given at a Safeway pharmacy is "far below the cost of a shot administered during a doctor office visit."

Medicare Part B participants will receive the flu shots free.

"We estimate nearly $100 million in savings to the health care system through our program alone," David Fong, senior vice president of pharmacy at Safeway, said in a statement.

The company noted that with the rough economy and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicting a severe flu season, it's important to supply people with easy, inexpensive access to inoculations.

"We have made the process of getting a flu vaccine affordable and convenient," Fong commented. "Individuals have no reason to go unprotected this flu season, nor should businesses risk lost productivity due to a sick workforce."

Besides offering seasonal flu vaccines, Safeway said it is working with state, local and federal health authorities to obtain a supply of the vaccine for the H1N1 "swine flu" virus. The vaccine is slated to be available in the United States in late October, according to the retailer.

Safeway also offers a range of other immunizations, including shingles, tetanus, pertusis, diptheria, hepatitis, pneumococcal, meningococcal and human papilomavirus (HPV) vaccines.

About 1,300 of Safeway's more than 1,700 supermarkets have a pharmacy. The retailer's store banners include Safeway, Vons, Dominick's, Genuardi's, Carrs, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Pak 'n Save and Pavilions banners.

"Washington metropolitan-area Safeway pharmacies have about a three-week supply of seasonal flu shots remaining," Safeway's Greg Ten Eyck tells WTOP.

Eyck says Safeway hopes to get more of the vaccine, but there's no guarantee the chain will. At this point, Safeway customers can still walk in without an appointment and get a flu shot.

The situation is similar at Giant Food stores.

"Demand has been very great," says Giant spokesman Jamie Miller. "In the last three weeks alone, we've administered a record number of flu shots."

So far this year Giant stores in the D.C.-Baltimore region have administered twice as many seasonal flu shots when compared to last year.

Although you can still walk in and get a shot at Giant, Miller encourages customers to call ahead to make sure the store still has them available.

Miller is not sure how long Giant's supply will last.

So why don't seasonal flu shot providers don't have the supply they expected to have?

In addition to demand being high, some vaccine manufacturers stopped production of the seasonal flu vaccine in order to make the H1N1 flu vaccine. Those manufacturers plan to resume making the seasonal vaccine a little later.

Health care providers say not having the seasonal vaccine now shouldn't be a big concern. The swine flu is the dominant flu strain making people sick right now. Cases of seasonal flu don't usually peak until February or March.
