That is very good to hear. Hopefully people won't back down and drop their complaints against the cops and others. This story needs to stay hot.

Cops and military beating up protestors and beating up college kids and not even thinking of who their parents might be. Talk about goons not thinking about consequences.

We'll see how things turn out. The Local TV media there need to be schooled in the constiution themsleves. I heard the news anchor on the scene say some things as if he grew up in Communist China.

Here are the full articles and links they even went so far as to report that people were referring to it as a "POLICE STATE" Remember this is the local NBC affiliate:

City Council To Form Fact-Finding Committee To Investigate G-20

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to form a special fact-finding committee to investigate the G-20 Summit and its impact on the city.

The committee will be made up of three council members and three members from the mayor's administration including public safety director Mike Huss and city controller Michael Lamb.

Council said they would examine every facet of the G-20, from its economic impact on downtown businesses to decisions by police.

While council praised police and gave them high marks overall, some raised questions about their strategy, particularly in Oakland last Friday night.

"Do we need as much of a police presence in the future?" asked councilman Patrick Dowd. "Should police be using this type of equipment and do we have policies in place for this type of equipment? These are questions that need to be asked and we will again hopefully learn from this experience," Dowd said.

Council said they had planned to form the committee even before some angry residents voiced their concerns at the Tuesday meeting.

"Pittsburgh was turned into a police state," said Albert Petraca.

"Pittsburgh looked like a scene from another country. As the parent of four former college students I would have gone ballistic if they had been arrested for being an innocent bystander," said Debbie McKenney.

Authorities said at several different times Thursday and Friday demonstrators failed to follow orders by police to disperse.

Channel 11's Rick Earle reported that police tossed canisters of pepper spray, fired rubbed bullets and used a noise cannon to aide in crowd control.

Council president Doug Shields told Earle that he anticipated people will be lining up to file lawsuits against the city. Shields said that is why the city purchased an insurance policy

Charges Will Be Dropped Against Some Students
Posted: 10:06 pm EDT September 29, 2009
Updated: 11:43 pm EDT September 29, 2009

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Allegheny County district attorney plans to withdraw charges against four students arrested during G-20 protests.

D.A. spokesman Mike Manko said, "Those four students were being used as pawns by individuals who came to the city with the intent on doing damage and then mixed in with the students in an attempt to avoid detection."

Preliminary hearings will be held Wednesday for about 50 of the people who were arrested in Oakland on Thursday and Friday.

University of Pittsburgh student Katie Piszko says she was on her way home last Friday when she caught up in the protests, which brought hundreds of people and riot police into the streets.

"I couldn't get back into my dorm and they were surrounding us on both sides, so I think there was a lot of innocent people that got hurt," said Piszko.

The district attorney says all 190 arrests are being reviewed, which included 51 University of Pittsburgh students.

University spokesman Robert Hill released a statement which read, "Most Pitt students who were arrested will be offered the opportunity to meet with university police to explain their circumstances."

Pittsburgh police say students were given eight warnings and had about 15 minutes to leave that area before gas and other tactics were used.

Read that article.... Judge said only if they could prove there innocents (as in walking from dorm to dorm) out of 110 they only got roughly 50 complaints of false arrest.

Its still up the the judge to release them.

Hate to rain on anyones parade, and I really do hope for justice.  But, as one of the 17 felonies from the WTO protest in Seattle where there was MUCH MORE VOLUME AND BRUTALITY used on MORE PROTESTERS by MORE Police, and the only person who got in trouble was the police chief.  That's it.  And they were beating old women using walkers up.  I saw riot police spray a fire extingisher sized pepper spray into the face of a small boy being held by his father who was just passing by and trying see what was going on.   I still have the hair on my neck raise when I think back to those two days.  Trust me, maybe if a they have on film beating a young rich looking girl with rich or famous parents, then they might get in trouble.  Otherwise, this story will peter out.  They always do.  Not trying to bum anyone out, but don't act like you have a victory cause the police are going to conduct an "investigation"   Really.

Sir, I don't think our innocent citizens being beaten by police as a victory. They are only being released because of the media (alternative) that was brought to light on these attacks. The Chief of Police doesn't want to be held responsible and hes calling in a favor I think...

All eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. The general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately

I sure hope you don't think innocent anyone being beaten by anyone is a victory.  That would make you a real scum bag.  Some people are referring to the investigations like justice will be served.  I know from experience that official "investigations" don't mean squat.  Most or all who misbehaved will go unpunished again reaffirming to police everywhere that they can abuse protesters with impunity.  As far as your statement "they are only being released....." is just silly.  Don't you think we had cameras in seattle?  It was 1999 not 1899.  CNN, ABC, CBS, BBC, NPR, Indymedia was up and running, never mind all the others/independents/protesters.  There were so many acts of brutality caught on film and in pictures.  There are many pictures of protesters having the upper hand which stands out compared to pitt pictures, but we had 50,000 protesters with the same amount of police pitt had.  Seriously, spend 30 mins of your time sometime and look up Seattle WTO and look at pics/vids. I don't doubt brutality went on in pitt.  It's horrible and saddens me.   I know some people who were in pitt including at least one I knew from before Seattle.  I want the best for everyone.  But the truth is, protesters always get abused on the streets, and rarely are the abusers punished.  That's just reality.  They screwed up in pitt cause they went on campus.  Too many enraged parents.  Only thing that may give this "investigation" legs.   I hope the truth wins out and true justice is served.  But I fear it won't be.  ryan

Activist Arrested For Using Twitter During G20 Protest
From Democracy Now:

"A New York activist has been arrested for using the social-networking site Twitter to spread information about police actions during the recent G20 protests in Pittsburgh. Elliot Madison was arrested on Sept. 24 in Pittsburgh. On Thursday FBI agents raided his home in Queens and spent 16 hours searching it. While protesters have used text messages and Twitter to communicate before, Madison is believed to be oen of the first activists to be charged criminally for sending information electronically to protesters about the police. A criminal complaint in Pennsylvania accused Madison of “directing others, specifically protesters of the G-20 summit, in order to avoid apprehension after a lawful order to disperse.” His attorney Martin Stolar said “He and a friend were part of a communications network among people protesting the G-20. There’s absolutely nothing that he’s done that should subject him to any criminal liability.”

Read through William N. Grigg's blog and you'll see that police brutality runs rampant everywhere; and such events as G20 are not required as an excuse for the police to overextend their powers:
