September 9: Actor CHARLIE SHEEN has written a letter to U.S. president BARACK OBAMA requesting a meeting over his [sic] theories about the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The day of 11 September 2001 saw America hit by the worst terrorist atrocities in the country's history, including an attack in New York which killed almost 3,000 people when airliners destroyed the World Trade Center.

Sheen has always been outspoken about his views on the attacks, supporting a conspiracy theory that the U.S. government at the time defrauded the public with its official story about the incident.

The star has now written to Obama asking him to reopen the investigation into 9/11.

The note, entitled 20 Minutes With The President, is written as a fictional meeting with Obama, in which Sheen urges the leader to follow through his promises of change, accountability and government transparency by using his powers to look into the actions of George W. Bush's previous administration.

Sheen hopes the president will take note of his campaign and grant him a meeting.

Actor Charlie Sheen authored a mock interview published September 8, 2009 on Alex Jones' news websites, www.infowars.com and www.prisonplanet.com, detailing a fictional meeting he had with President Barack Obama.

President to review the 9/11 Commission's findings and conclusions in its report published July 22, 2004, in order to address the outstanding questions remaining in the minds of victims' families, many Americans and now, over half of the 9/11 Commission's committee members themselves.

The piece titled "Twenty Minutes With The President" became both a major hit and a major source of controversy for the actor and syndicated talk show host and filmmaker leading to slowed website performance and a blend of supportive and incredulous comments from readers and listeners.

The success of the article and a radio announcement carried along with it caused Jones to disable comments on his websites due to overwhelming server load, leading some readers to cry foul over censorship. Adding to the controversy, the story was purportedly published with no indication that it was a fictional account of Charlie Sheen's desired presidential interview. Although a note at the bottom stated: "What you have just read didn't actually happen... yet. This is an open letter to the President requesting a new investigation."

Within hours the blogosphere erupted into a macro-cosmic representation of the prisonplanet.com and infowars.com comments. Some news outlets inaccurately carried the story as an event that had actually taken place, while others carried commentary critical of Charlie Sheen for supporting inquiry into the most televised and widely debated tragedies of this century.

An article by Mark Whittington of Associated Content criticizes Sheen saying, "this bit of news might be just another example of an overly egotistical actor thinking that his role as an aging lothario on Two and a Half Men buys him face time with the President of the United States. However, with the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks coming up and the revelation that the now former White House Green Jobs Czar Van Jones was himself a 9/11 truther focuses attention on the new paranoid style of American politics." The spectacle on Alex Jones' websites took place while President Obama delivered his controversial speech to school students, and rides on the heels of the resignation of Van Jones over his signature on a petition seeking a renewed investigation into the events of September 11, 2001.

Van Jones was not the only government official to have added its name to the petition, however.

The petition included signatories such as the Assistant Secretary of Housing in the first Bush administration, the former deputy attorney general of Pennsylvania, the Air Force lieutenant colonel who founded the Institute for Space and Security Studies, a former CIA analyst and professor at the National War College, the deputy secretary for Intelligence and Warning under Nixon, Ford and Carter, a five-term congresswoman from Georgia, a former ambassador and chief-of-mission to Iraq, a former deputy director to the White House Task Force on Terrorism, a former foreign service officer at the State Department and a New York fireman connected with its HAZMAT operations. The story written by Sheen as an open letter to President Obama rekindles the debate surrounding the official version of events that happened on September 11, 2001. The questions promoted in his piece are as timely and relevant as the debate that has emerged from its controversy.

With the eighth anniversary of 9/11 fast approaching, the debate sparked by Charlie Sheen is sure to send ripples through online communities and news media alike.

"Truthers" are the people who believe the 9/11 terror attacks were an inside job. That the Bush administration had advance knowledge of them and let them occur. In the more extreme version of an already extremist theory, truthers believe the U.S. government itself carried out the attacks as an excuse to take the nation to war.

At the very least the truthers question the official version of events and want the government to reopen the investigation. In a way, they have a lot in common with those who to this day refuse to believe that Lee Harvey Oswald fired the fatal shot in Dallas.

One prominent truther is former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga. Another is former Obama White House aide Van Jones (whose resignation late Saturday came after it was learned his name appear on a truther petition demanding further investigation of the events surrounding 9/11). Another is, believe it or not, actor Charlie Sheen, who currently stars on just about the only comedy left on CBS that anyone watches. And Sheen wants a face-to-face meeting with President Obama so he can ask him to personally order an investigation into the "9/11 cover up."

Sheen's request, says syndicated radio host Alex Jones—on whose program Sheen is scheduled to appear Wednesday and Friday—"takes the form of a letter to the President in the context of a fictional meeting between the two entitled '20 Minutes with the President,'" that Jones says he has published "exclusively" on his Web site.

According to Jones, Sheen's letter "cites evidence, backed up by a substantial online bibliography, that alleges to prove the official story behind 9/11 is a fraud and that this conclusion was also reached by the majority of the 9/11 Commission members, a fact that mandates President Obama to reopen the investigation into the terrorist attacks."

In a release published Monday, Jones says the actor is now urging "grass roots political organizations and individuals across the country to go to press conferences and other public events and demand answers about the truth behind 9/11."

"We cannot allow governments to continue to advance their political agendas by exploiting forged pretexts," Sheen is quoted saying, "and the fact that big budget hit pieces against 9/11 truth are still being rolled out proves that the establishment is upset that the population is waking up to false flag terror."

For several months now, a number of liberal writers—including several of my bloleagues here on Thomas Jefferson Street—have challenged the Republicans to repudiate the "birthers." These are the folks who believe Barack Obama was born someplace outside of the United States and, as such, is constitutionally ineligible to hold the office to which he was elected in November 2008. To them, and I am speaking of my colleagues in journalism now, the birthers are an illegitimate political force who refuse to recognize reality.

Fair enough. But the truthers are at least as much of a fringe element as the birthers. They are, perhaps, just as influential—in an intellectual and political sense—as the birthers and the Democrats need to deal with them.

Ive noticed on a few main stream papers I read in the comments sections that people who only have a very elementary understanding of things are rejecting "Obama's" nonsense all of a sudden. Folks who claim they supported his idea of change and then figured out that he fibbed and is going in some weird direction. Nice to see. They dont seem concerned with the truth of 9/11 as much as they seem to just reject the direction in which the country is going and Obama as its figurehead. For a lot of folks it looks like the truth of 9/11 is too deep and too much to take right at first. Betcha that comes later though.

Unfortunately some who were thinking on things that we know personally totally turned away from things due to the interview yesterday. My hope is that whatever Mr Jones is doing includes an expansion on getting the information out in a way that appeals to them.

my hope is that we heed AJ's request and take this upon ourselves, never having to rely on AJ or anyone for Hope and Change again! this is the founding principal of this country and it is about time we acknowledged it and adhere to it. the awakening is infinitely more powerful than any small group of prophets and leaders. 1,000,000 microwave weapons and 1,000,000 secret satellites cannot make a dent in it when it occurs.
