There was a theory that was commonly accepted before global warming became the dominant theory.  Global warming is essentially the opposite theory.  It's the majority theory accepted today because it says that the green-house gases will take in more sunlight and then the Earth will become warmer.  The idea of global cooling is that the Earth will become warmer and warmer and that we're going through a series of inter-glacial period so when this inter-glacial period ends we're going to enter a new ice-age.  In addition to that- pollution could even speed up the process...

It's an interesting theory.  It makes a lot of sense to me personally because I know of the historical fact that we've had several global cooling periods.  So when Al Gore presented his theory without talking about global cooling I knew something was fishy.

Of course the future is so far off in the future that we can't predict really if either model is correct... so hopefully neither will happen in our life time... neither scenarios that is.
