US Military Chief: Afghanistan Situation is 'Serious and Deteriorating'
http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-08-23-voa14.cfm
By VOA News
23 August 2009

The U.S. military's top officer says he believes the situation in Afghanistan is "serious and deteriorating."

US Navy Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (file)

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, said in an interview on U.S. television CNN's State of the Union Sunday that the Taliban insurgency has "gotten better [and] more sophisticated" in its tactics over the past couple of years.

In a separate interview on NBC's Meet the Press, Mullen said the U.S. military is focused on preventing another terrorist attack on U.S. soil and that its current strategy in Afghanistan is intended to disrupt and defeat al-Qaida, the Taliban and its extremist allies.

The Obama administration is expecting an assessment from its commander in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal, in the next two weeks on the current situation there.

Republican Senator John McCain said in an interview on ABC's This Week Sunday that McChrystal's assessment should say exactly how many troops are needed in Afghanistan.

But Mullen said the upcoming assessment will not detail what resources are needed in Afghanistan. He also would not speculate whether more troops are required there.

Both Mullen and McCain said they expect to have a better idea on what, if any, progress is being made in Afghanistan

within the next year to year-and-a-half.

Wow, I wonder what would have happened if Macarther, Patton, or Eisenhower said that.

I don't remember exactly the figures I saw this morning but these are close:

2001--Afghanistan produced 12 % of the poppies (opium into heroin)  in the world.

2008--      "              "        93%  of the poppies in the world

I guess Mullen figures if they stay another 1.5 years they will get to the 100% level.

Soros and the CIA are getting richer.

Figure what out, we invaded them. Iraq was WMD's, Afghanistan is the booogey man.

We invaded their nation, what does any rational human draw from that statement.
The common man will join any and all forces to repell the invaders. Give it a name for the MSM to bellow, call them Taliban, AlQuida,BinLadens aunty,  or admit that just want us the FK out of their nation. We didn't simply step on their toes we bombed their familys.
WTF, invade a country, commit genocide, for what, the profit, what is there to figure out.
These folks don't want us bombing & killing them, dominating them, invading their nation under false pretences. They will fight to the last man, not for the drug lords, for their soveriengty, their country and families. Afghanistans have been fighting wars since Alexander the Great attempted to do batle with them, (he retreated).

We are the casue of this, get the boys home General , grow a set and admit it. Or bow to the Politicians and watch the genocide continue.

The big brass, some have revolted, they are now in forced retirement. The remainder, need a good look in the mirror, and a soul adjustment.

If I'm missing something here, please let me know.

Whatever it takes to stall the illegal occupation indefinitely as in forever. A war of lies built on lies. Yep, that's the USA.

For those who don't know who Smedley Butler is, read this: (He wrote "War is a Racket")

Oh geez...

Every year without fail this is what happens!

'Taliban launching spring offensive'
'Coalition forces crush offensive'
'Taliban regrouping'
'Coalition losing ground'
'Taliban leaders killed and detained'
'Coalition casualties mount'
'Surge needed for Afghanistan'
'Taliban spokesman (every few months) detained or killed'

Don't forget to add the fact that they can only kill the same person 4 times because statistics show that sheeple finally start catching on after the 5th reporting!
