Obama to Take On Health-Care Critics
Town Hall Meetings Expected to Be Feisty
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/13/AR2009081301914_pf.html
By Anne E. Kornblut

President Obama is embarking on a final public relations push on health care Friday before heading off on vacation, wading into the same kind of often hostile town hall meetings that members of Congress have endured for much of August.

Obama heads to Montana on Friday and Colorado on Saturday for town hall meetings even as his allies are stepping up their efforts to rebut what they describe as "myths" about health-care reform. Obama supporters are being urged to turn out for the president to counter what they anticipate could be the kind of vocal criticism that has recently dominated headlines and cable news.

Facing questions about whether public support for the health overhaul initiative is sagging, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Thursday that the problem was rooted in misconceptions spread by political opponents.

"Have some of those misconceptions contributed to the poll numbers? I don't doubt that," Gibbs said. "But at the same time, I mean, there's a little cause and effect here, but we're not going to stop pushing back on the misconceptions, whether or not the polling shows one thing or another. The president, again, strongly believes that, and has for years, that it's better to address what people's concerns are and take them on head-on."

One of the most inflammatory charges has been that Obama and Democrats were seeking to implement "death panels," with bureaucrats making decisions about whether elderly or seriously ill patients live or die. The allegation stems in part from a provision in a bill passed by three House committees that would provide Medicare reimbursement to patients seeking end-of-life counseling. On Thursday, lawmakers working on the Senate version said that provision had been dropped from their proposal.

"The bill passed by the House committees is so poorly cobbled together that it will have all kinds of unintended consequences," Sen. Charles E. Grassley (Iowa), the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, said in a statement. "On the end-of-life issue, there's a big difference between a simple educational campaign, as some advocates want, and the way the House committee-passed bill pays physicians to advise patients about end-of-life care and rates physician quality of care based on the creation of and adherence to orders for end-of-life care, while at the same time creating a government-run program that is likely to lead to the rationing of care for everyone. . . .

"We dropped end-of-life provisions from consideration entirely because of the way they could be misinterpreted and implemented incorrectly."

In an e-mail to supporters posted on the White House Web site Thursday morning, David Axelrod, a senior adviser to Obama, said critics of the administration's health-care proposals were spreading "all sorts of lies and distortions" through "viral e-mails" that were flying around unchecked. He urged supporters to help start "a chain e-mail of our own" to rebut what Obama has called "these wild misrepresentations that bear no resemblance to anything that's actually been proposed."

Separately, a coalition of groups backing Obama's proposals launched a $12 million TV ad campaign Thursday, pitching health insurance reform in states where centrist Democratic House members or senators are under pressure on the issue. The campaign is intended to serve as a counterweight to critics who have shouted down Democratic lawmakers at town hall meetings, encounters that have received heavy news coverage.

The coalition distributing the ads, Americans for Stable Quality Care, is funded largely by the pharmaceutical industry and includes the American Medical Association; Families USA; the Federation of American Hospitals; the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, known as PhRMA; and the Service Employees International Union. PhRMA has promised to contribute as much as $150 million for advertising and grass-roots activity to help pass Obama's health-care reform package.

The pharmaceutical industry has pledged to provide $80 billion over the next decade to help cover the costs of the overhaul, reportedly in return for an administration promise that Medicare would not be allowed to negotiate drug prices with the industry.

In the first 30-second ad, a narrator offers assurance that health-insurance reform means people cannot be denied coverage for a preexisting condition or dropped if they get sick.

"It means putting health-care decisions in the hands of you and your doctor," the narrator says. "It means lower costs, a cap on out-of-pocket expenses, tough new rules to cut waste and red tape and a focus on preventing illness before it strikes. So what does health-insurance reform really mean? Quality, affordable care you can count on."

According to a USA Today/Gallup poll, 69 percent of Americans are closely following news of town hall meetings on health-care reform. Thirty-four percent say protests against the plan at the meetings have made them more sympathetic to the critics' views, and 21 percent say the protests make them less sympathetic, according to the poll. Thirty-six percent say the protests have made no difference.

A separate USA Today/Gallup poll reported that 49 percent of Americans disapprove of Obama's handling of health-care policy while 43 percent approve.

With Obama heading to Montana, Democrats in that state are furiously recruiting the party faithful to turn out at his event, which is scheduled to take place in a suburb of Bozeman. Demonstrators are targeting Obama's appearance as their most high-profile opportunity yet to make their case against a plan they perceive to be a government takeover of the nation's health-care system.

Worried about the potential for a harsh reception, the Montana Democratic Party sent an e-mail to supporters Thursday urging them to show up Friday.

"Last fall, when Swiftboaters and special interests attacked President Obama, folks like you came to his defense," wrote Anna Gustina, who was the 2008 state director of Organizing for America, a grass-roots arm of the Obama presidential campaign. "We knocked on doors, talked to neighbors, and made our voices heard. Now, we need to do it again."

Montana protesters plan rallies around Obama event
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iSTCPzGGzEMWHf29ICfz8d38Dm-AD9A1J6JO0
By MATT GOURAS (AP) – 1 day ago

HELENA, Mont. — Protesters plan to turn out in force when President Barack Obama brings his health care town hall tour to Montana on Friday and puts a conservative suburb of Bozeman at the center of the issue for a day.

Organizers expect as many as 500 people at a rally outside the Gallatin Field Airport hangar in Belgrade where Obama will hold the event.

Patients First said the protest is intended to show leaders the public is not happy with the expensive reform proposals. The group is affiliated with the Americans for Prosperity activists who came together during the "Tea Party" anti-big-government protests.

Obama was expected to focus on a provision of the reform plan that would prevent insurance companies from dropping or limiting insurance coverage for those who become seriously ill.

U.S. Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., is a key figure in the issue, as he tries to draft a bipartisan plan. Protesters want to get his attention.

"Montana has become ground zero in the national health care debate," said Jake Eaton of Patients First. "It will be important to see Montanans come out in force to say no to government health care."

Advocates for a government-run health care system are hoping to get inside the hangar to ask Obama questions. Some may have a vocal presence outside the aircraft hangar, said Gene Fenderson of the group Montanans for Single Payer.

"We are encouraging people to attend the president's forum and hopefully have a chance to ask questions," he said.

Observers said they would be surprised if protesters created big problems.

"Even though we are Montana, and pretty conservative, I would be surprised if there were a huge scene in Belgrade in opposition to the president," said Craig Wilson, a political scientist at Montana State University-Billings. "Any time a president comes to Montana, it's a big deal."

Other groups with a stake in the issue are using the president's visit to advance their cause without protests.

Service Employees International Union plans to bring in national figures this week to support its campaign in favor of a government health care option.

And a group of doctors called the Coalition to Protect Patient Rights was holding an event each day before the president's visit. It opposes the government option.

Obama showered Montana with unprecedented attention during the election last year but fell short of becoming the first Democratic presidential candidate since Bill Clinton in 1992 to carry the state.

The president chose to hold his town hall in Belgrade, a conservative suburb of Bozeman in a county he barely carried, instead of playing it safe by visiting a Democratic stronghold like Butte.

Montana tribal leader receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

Amanda Burkhart

A Montana tribal leader was honored today with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  Joe Medicine Crow joined 15 others to receive the award.

     "They remind us that we each have it within our powers to fulfill our dreams to advance the dreams of others, and to remake the world for our children." President Obama said in an address to the winners which included physicists Stephen Hawking, and Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

     Senator Jon Tester nominated 95-year-old Medicine Crow last year.  Medicine Crow became a Crow war chief after performing four war deeds fighting Nazis in World War II.

      "This is a historic day, not only for Joe, but for all of Montana." Tester said today.  "Joe earned this award a long time ago. He is a great warrior, and leader, and public servant. And all of Montana can be proud of Joe Medicine Crow."

     Medicine Crow earned a bronze star and the prestigious French Legion of Honor.  Medicine Crow is a celebrated author, historian, and lecturer.

Gibbs is such a liar and so is the Prez (see the Obama Deception).

He says the Prez strongly believes, AND HAS FOR YEARS, that it's better to address what people's concerns are and take them on head-on.

O yea, Prez, WHERE'S YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE?  WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO LARRY SINCLAIR?  WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE $24 TRILLION GIVEN TO YOUR HANDLERS AND THE BANKERS?  WHAT IS REALLY THE STORY BEHIND THE NORTH AMERICAN UNION? ETC.ETC.ETC.

the only problem with that is that we all know the answer we get will also be a lie because they will never ever expose the 100% honest truth to one person outside the circle much less the world!

Democratic lawmaker: Obama willing to be a one-termer
http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/08/14/dem-lawmaker-obama-willing-to-be-a-one-termer/
By Mike Sheehan Published: August 14, 2009

Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-IA) says President Barack Obama is so focused on health care reform that he’s willing to stake his presidency on it.

After a town hall meeting yesterday in Iowa, the Democratic lawmaker quoted Obama to reporters (audio clip at bottom):

The president (said), ‘I’m not going to kick the can down the road.’ And he said that and I said, ‘Well, that’s something I’m kind of used to from southern Iowa, you know. I know about kicking the can down the road.’ And he said, ‘No, if it makes me a one-term president, I’m going to, we’re going to take it on because the country is in need of us taking this on.’ I respected that very much.”

Boswell said the president made his remarks during a recent meeting with the centrist “Blue Dog” Democrats, of which Boswell is a member.

The moderate Blue Dogs have found (some would argue, placed) themselves at the center of the battle over health care reform, as proponents and opponents duke it out on Capitol Hill.

Meanwhile, town hall meetings across the country continue to be the scene of raucous, vocal disenchantment, particularly when hosted by Democratic lawmakers speaking to their constituencies.

Critics on the left maintain that many of the seemingly impromptu protests, fodder of late for national news, have been orchestrated by Republican groups, with heated rhetoric that to some borders on hate speech.

Conservatives, meanwhile, charge that Democrats are attempting to force through an expensive, unwieldy health care reform plan that amounts to little, if any, change.

The following audio is from Radio Iowa, broadcast on Aug. 13, 2009.

GERALD CELENTE 2.5 MILLION JOBS LOST SINCE OBAMA'S PRESIDENCY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Of_7ryonol8

Look what Obama said in Jan:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obama: Stimulus can save 4 million jobs
Obama's proposal targets alternative energy and infrastructure for investments he says will save existing jobs and create new ones.
http://money.cnn.com/2009/01/10/news/obama_jobs.reut/
January 10, 2009: 9:44 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- President-elect Obama said Saturday an analysis of his stimulus proposals shows that between 3 million and 4 million U.S. jobs could be saved or created by 2010, nearly 90% of them in the private sector.
The analysis of Obama's estimated $800 billion plan to lift the country out of a year-long recession was submitted by the chair of his council of economic advisers, Christina Romer, and by Vice President-elect Joe Biden's chief economic adviser, Jared Bernstein.
Obama announced the report on his weekly radio and Internet address. He had previously said his American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan would create or save 3 million jobs, but said the analysis from his advisers showed that number would range between 3 million and 4 million.
"The jobs we create will be in businesses large and small across a wide range of industries," Obama said. "And they'll be the kind of jobs that don't just put people to work in the short term, but position our economy to lead the world in the long-term."
His radio address comes just after official figures showed U.S. employers slashed more than half a million jobs from their payrolls in December, pushing the unemployment rate to 7.2% and bringing the total number of jobs lost last year to 2.6 million - the most since 1945.
Obama said his plan would create nearly 500,000 jobs by investing in clean energy, by committing to double the production of alternative energy in the next three years and by improving the energy efficiency of 2 million American homes.
"These made-in-America jobs building solar panels and wind turbines, developing fuel-efficient cars and new energy technologies pay well, and they can't be outsourced," he said.
Repairing infrastructure
Obama also said the report showed the recovery plan - which analysts have estimated will cost about $800 billion - will also put nearly 400,000 people back to work repairing infrastructure like crumbling roads, bridges and school and laying down miles of broadband lines.
"Finally, we won't just create jobs, we'll also provide help for those who've lost theirs, and for states and families who've been hardest-hit by this recession," he said.
"That means bipartisan extensions of unemployment insurance and health care coverage; a $1,000 tax cut for 95% of working families; and assistance to help states avoid harmful budget cuts in essential services like police, fire, education and health care."
Obama, who has faced tough opposition from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers over his recovery plan especially regarding tax cuts, repeated a warning that recovery will not come overnight and the situation could likely get worse before it gets better.
"But we have come through moments like this before," he said. "I am confident that if we come together and summon that great American spirit once again, we will meet the challenges of our time and write the next great chapter in our American story."
Though Obama did not mention it in the radio address, the report suggested that tax cuts, especially temporary ones, and fiscal relief to the states are likely to create fewer jobs than direct increases in government purchases.
"However, because there is a limit on how much government investment can be carried out efficiently in a short time frame, and because tax cuts and state relief can be implemented quickly, they are crucial elements of any package aimed at easing economic distress quickly," the report said.
i think he is trying to sabatoge his own bill.
right after saying that medicare is the best thing since sliced bread after he was asked about if the new plan will take some benefits from medicare, he used the following example:
"well it is like you bring your car into the shop and they fix one thing and then you got to get it fixed again. well we are going to fix you right the first time and if we do than that extra money goes into the system to reduce the entitlement debt of the medicare system. see the medicare system is in deep trouble right now."
Oh man, WTF, he cannot be that dumb, I mean that was george bush dumb.
8 questions.
6 were planted. 2 were semi-planted.
one guy said how are you going to pay for it without raising taxes: his answer made no sense.
second was "why are you vilifying insurance companies" answer was "I love Aetna who has backed the plan"
this was just more of a complete failure as the premise is a failure. there is no way to defend this insane plan in the middle of a depression when we are bankrupt.
the only answer is depopulation as we have mentioned or to reduce spending like stopping the empire as ron paul has suggested.
anything else is just nonsensical spin to divert attention from the fact that the banksters are robbing us blind.
this whole thing seems to be an excercise in distraction.
I believe this is absolutely an exercise in distraction from the collapse of the economy. Same thing with the flu.
The real issue is that we're tanking, and the bankers have been robbing us blind.
how the media controls the opposition
I got this from a friend who was trying to get into the event.
This morning I observed further irony over in Belgrade City Hall where being so clever, I went at 6 a.m. for tickets to Obama’s townhall mtg. Not so clever after all. People camped out last night, no doubt passing their time by reading “Dreams from my Father.” I’m guessing there was north of 600 people in line waiting for 250 tickets to be distributed at 9 a.m. At 8:30, all the tickets were distributed and I had to wonder if the other 350 dejected wait-in-liners, many of whom were wearing Obama 08 pins, gave the faintest thought of how the Federal Govt. tasked with providing “free” healthcare for everybody in line, armed with scarce resources, will actually perform – especially when budget deficits cap and ration healthcare.
On the drive back home, I tuned into the local radio station where a lady called in reporting that her friend working at Kinkos said that they printed up ~1,500 tickets with 250 going to Belgrade City Hall, ~450 going to Bozeman City Hall. Where do you think the other 850 tickets went do you think? Perhaps to adoring, manufactured (not handmade) sign carrying people on the back of the podium and front and center within view of the Cameras? I just wonder who these folk come from and what their political affiliation might be?
Ironic also that so many of our tax dollars are being spent on this MEDIA SPECTACLE with a c-130 landing in Gallatin Field yesterday unloading limos, Escalades for the Secret Service and whatever other accessories go along with the entourage. Yesterday, I saw a fleet of five helicopters (yes, they were ‘black’) flying low to the ground, and up and down this expansive valley. I heard the same fleet was spotted flying above the Madison and Yellowstone Valleys later in the afternoon. I’m gratified to hear that our government is checking out possible domestic terrorist threats. You never know about those militia types masquerading as buffalo herds in Yellowstone Park. My greatest satisfaction though is that Michelle, the girls, and Grandma are taking a break from their fatiguing tax-payer sponsored touring of Europe, and instead are tourists within their own country. It’s wonderful to see them traveling in style and spending our money in America -- roughing it at the Sun Mountain Ranch, after their grueling day of sightseeing. Our rock star President deserves no less.
There will be north of 2000 people protesting Obamacare outside of Gallatin Field tomorrow. Just so you know because our Obama State Sponsored Media will certainly not cover that ‘news’ the way they will spin Obama’s visit to that Purple State of Montana where even Republicans agree with the President.
from someone stuck in the false left right paradigm
I'm trying to formulate my thoughts on just what happened in Bozeman yesterday, for Obama's visit.  It was good and it was bad and I gather you deducted that just from your gleaning of hearing His Highness on the TV...It was soooo orchestrated and the Obama rally folks were bussed in on beautiful buses and were given SIGNs and were agressive folks overall.  They shouted chants on bullhorns and got frenetic.  We maintained our cool and didn't back down and not  nasty...They stole the spot that Bozeman Tea Party had CLEARED with the police department and airport way ahead of time.  It was the better spot because it allowed more visibility..
They (they the Obama side) showed up TWO hours BEFORE Obama's visit. We all showed up, as planned, one hour before his visit.  The police were all over the place but mostly near or at the Hangar.  They could not at first control Obama's crowd and actually asked our  group to concede the spot to them.  It wasn't that the police were on their side, actually contrare, but they were overwhelmed and we conceded to keep the peace for all.    Our group which was continually forming right next to them was growing and growing but we were disappointed that our group seemed less prepared and effective.  We clearly were outnumbering them, but we had to wait for folks to arrive from all over with their own cars, their own $$ to get there and their own homemade signs.
At 11:40 a.m. VOILA the Calvary finally arrived and were they awesome!  Bozeman Tea Party group mounted  two giant speakers on top of a van decorated in banners of the American spirit.  BTP team dispensed their great orators of their group and LOUDLY now, drowning out the smaller crowd with their pathetic ( now) bullhorns.  What they had to say brought large cheers from the Anti Government Healthcare supporters...Then the sad reminder, endless lines of cars were now passing us going to the Hanger to be a part of the meeting that almost ALL conservatives were shunned from.  As they passed and we were out there soaking wet from rain, holding our signs etc and our flags only to get cold stares and jeers from many of the cars passing by us to the hanger - we knew Obama's Townhall was totally stacked against us.  We even had his townhall meeting beeped out to us on our big speakers - many folks were so angry at the orchestrated bull that they ran to their cars and plugged their ears - however, it had to be broadcasted.
So many times we were soaked to the bone not willing to give up our space and time to the Obama crowd - I was proud to stand with these wet and cold patriots of ALL ages.  We had wonderful guest speakers and at least 3 from our group of 14 that caravaned up from Kalispell got to speak and we were applauded for driving up and joining them!  After the rally ended, the busses took the Obama group home and many had left their "given signs" in a pile on the grass along with their trash....we were chilled but it wasn't from the weather........When I saw the TV shows my husband taped and saved for me of the event - nothing "nationally" was portrayed of the drama and true spirit going on outside the hanger from real Montanans and real Americans- only the orchestrated dribble from the left and their supreme Leader....  (hopefully local radio and T.V. gave it some coverage as they were there!)
more on the staged Obama 'town hall' in Montana
Hello All,
 By now you have probably heard that President Obama came to Montana last
 Friday. However, there are many things that the major news has not
 covered. I feel that since Joe and I live here and we were at the
 airport on Friday I should share some facts with you. Whatever you
 decide to do with the information is up to you. If you chose to share
 this email with others I do ask that you DELETE my email address before
 you forward this on.
 On Wednesday, August 5th it was announced locally that the President
 would be coming here. There are many groups here that are against his
 healthcare and huge spending so those groups began talking and deciding
 on what they were going to do. The White House would not release ANY
 details other than the date.
 On about Tuesday Joe found out that they would be holding the "Town
 Hall" at the airport. (This is only because Joe knows EVERYONE at the
 airport) Our airport is actually located outside of Belgrade (tiny town)
 in a very remote location. Nothing is around there. They chose to use a
 hangar that is the most remotely located hangar. You could not pick a
 more remote location, and you can not get to it easily. It is totally
 secluded from the public.
 FYI: We have many areas in Belgrade and Bozeman which could have held a
 large amount of folks with sufficient parking. (gymnasiums/auditoriums).
 All of which have chairs and tables, and would not have to be SHIPPED
 IN!! $$$$$
 During the week, cargo by the TONS was being shipped in constantly.
 Airport employees could not believe how it just kept coming. Though it
 was our President coming several expressed how excessive it was,
 especially during a recession. $$$$$
 Late Tuesday/early Wednesday the 12th, they said that tickets would be
 handed out on Thursday 9am at two locations and the president would be
 arriving around 12:30 Friday.
 Thursday morning about 600 tickets were passed out. However, 1500 were
 printed at a Local printing shop per White House request. Hmmmm......900
 tickets just DISAPPEARED.
 This same morning someone called into the radio from the local UPS
 branch and said that THOUSANDS of Dollars of Lobster were shipped in for
 Obama. Montana has some of the best beef in the nation!!! And it would
 have been really wonderful to help out the local economy. Anyone heard
 of the Recession?? Just think...with all of the traveling the White
 House is doing. $$$$$ One can only imagine what else we are paying for.
 On Friday Joe and I got out to the airport about 10:45am. The groups
 that wanted to protest Obama's spending and healthcare had gotten a
 permit to protest and that area was roped off. But that was not to be. A
 large bus carrying SEIU (Service Employees International Union) members
 drove up onto the area (illegal)and unloaded right there. It was quite a
 commotion and there were specifically 2 SEIU men trying to make trouble
 and start a fight. Police did get involved and arrested the one man but
 they said they did not have the manpower to remove the SEIU crowd.
 The SEIU crowd was very organized and young. About 99% were under the
 age of 30 and they were not locals! They had bullhorns and
 PROFESSIONALLY made signs. Some even wore preprinted T-shirts. Oh, and
 Planned Parenthood folks were with them.....professing abortion rights
 with their T-shirts and preprinted signs. (BTW, all these folks did have
 a permit to protest in ANOTHER area)
 Those against healthcare/spending moved away from the SEIU crowd to
 avoid confrontation. They were orderly and respectful. Even though SEIU
 kept coming over and walking through, continuing to be very intimidating
 and aggressive at the direction of the one SEIU man.
 So we had Montana folks from ALL OVER the state with their homemade
 signs and their DOGS with homemade signs. We had cowboys, nurses,
 doctors you name it. There was even a guy from Texas who had been
 driving through. He found out about the occasion, went to the store,
 made a sign, and came to protest.
 If you are wondering about the press.....Well, all of the major networks
 were over by that remote hangar I mentioned. They were conveniently
 parked on the other side of the buildings FAR away. None of these crowds
 were even visible to them. I have my doubts that they knew anything
 about the crowds.
 We did have some local news media around us from this state and Idaho.
 Speaking of the local media...they were invited. However, all questions
 were to be turned into the White House in advance of the event. Wouldn't
 want anyone to have to think off the top of their head.
 It was very obvious that it was meant to be totally controlled by the
 White House. Everything was orchestrated down to the last detail to make
 it appear that Montana is just crazy for Obama and government
 healthcare. Even those people that talked about their insurance
 woes........the White House called our local HRDC (Human Resource and
 Development Committee) and asked for names. Then the White House asked
 those folks to come. Smoke and mirrors...EVERYTHING was staged!!!!!!!!!!!
 I am very dismayed about what I learned about our current White House.
 The amount of control and manipulation was unbelievable. I felt I was
 not living in the United States of America, more like the USSR!! I was
 physically nauseous. Joe and I have been around when Presidents or Heads
 of State visit. It has NEVER been like this. I am truly very frightened
 for our country. America needs your prayers and your voices. If you care
 about our country please get involved. Know the issues. And let Congress
 hear your voices again and again!! If they are willing to put forth so
 much effort to BULLY a small town one can only imagine what is going on
 in Washington DC. Scary!!
more news the the Obamanation visit to Montana
Montana Tea Party Protest of Obama
From Henry Kriegel on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 12:39 PM
This guest post by Henry Kriegel details a Tea Party protest at an Obama health care town hall.
The Bozeman Tea Party and supporters clashed with paid union thugs including Service Employees International Union, a group affiliated with ACORN and the Montana AFL-CIO who bussed down union members and paid community organizers from Missoula. While the Obama supporters arrived in the middle of the night, claimed our permitted area and had an early advantage with numbers and with positioning, we eventually turned out 300-350 people and tea-bagged them.
The opponents, who turned out approximately 150 people only a few of whom I could recognize from Gallatin County, initially outfoxed and out-positioned us. We tried several times to remove them as soon as we arrived in the early morning. The police were not able to remove them. Bill Dove, chief of airport security, using a megaphone told all of us that he and his men were there to protect the President of the United States and the Town Hall event, told the Obama supporters to leave our area and urged us to keep our cool. The Obama supporters refused to heed his order. Instead they continued to goad us. It was bordering on getting out-of-control but we refused to take the bait. We were outnumbered at that time—our people arrived late—and decided to back off, set up camp and do our program. After all, you can’t win a mud fight against pigs in a pig pen.
While we were regrouping, we eventually overran their chants. When our volunteer fire truck was set up with our loud PA system and put into position, we overwhelmed them and the battle was pretty much over. The fire truck was the perfect platform. I climbed on top and began our program welcoming our supporters to America’s Second Revolution. We kicked into high gear and pumped up the crowd. Tammy Hall also got it going. One guy, whom we never met before, Dr. David McKalip, a Florida-based neurosurgeon, took time from his Yellowstone Park vacation with his family and joined us when he heard about our rally. He gave a great speech. Dr. McKalip spoke about the need for accessible and affordable high-quality health care free from government intervention and the need to empower patients with the financial and decision-making power taking it from government and insurance companies. Anyone who wanted to speak got an opportunity. Janice Hall, an emergency room doctor from Billings and Jennifer Stillings, a local nurse both spoke. A woman from England discussed her country’s experience with government-run healthcare. Activists Bob Adney, Tom Tuck, Rep. Mike More (HD-70), Billie Orr and Stan Jones among others also spoke. Patient’s First, a national group was holding up the rear with their parked bus, gathering signatures on petitions and handing out information.
The opponents are led by paid hacks. In addition to union members, the Fund for Public Interest, a left-leaning pro-Obama non-profit organization is apparently paying $10-15 per hour, up to $600 per week for campaign workers to “go out in communities around the country and help make change happen.” With offices in Missoula, it is likely that the Fund sent people to the Friday protest.
Unlike many of the pro-Obama reformers, we are volunteers and do our work not for free, but at a personal loss and are proud to pay this small price for freedom. We, like most Montanans have a high level of distrust, concern and outrage over government control over private industries, and in this case the healthcare industry which comprises 17 percent of our total economy. We are tired of bank bailouts, massive unsustainable spending and government takeover of private industries such as the auto industry, the banking industry and the insurance industry. While many of us agree that healthcare needs reform, we also feel that the best place to start is with tort reform to reduce the costs of physicians’ malpractice insurance and incentives for maintaining health.
The Sunday prior to President Obama’s visit Tea Party protesters gathered at the Museum of the Rockies to greet Senator Max Baucus. Baucus, who acted like John the Baptist clearing the way for the arrival of the Chosen One, was in town to promote the Make Health Happen Montana conference. The President realizes the importance of Montana, in part due to Baucus’ position as Chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee and wanted to pressure the Senator into backing his more aggressive healthcare reform agenda.
While Baucus showed courage in getting out of his car and addressing Tea Party protesters for an impromptu question and answer session, his comments to the media the next day diminished our respect for him. In an interview with the Daily Inter Lake, Baucus said “he tried to talk with people protesting outside the conference, but said they would not let him speak” which is a fabrication. He said that one demonstrator “was bused in from Texas” implying that others were also bussed in is also a lie. We don’t need to bus people in because our volunteers, who in overwhelming numbers live in Gallatin County and vicinity, were willing to come out in full force on a Sunday night to stage this protest. Baucus went further in insulting us calling us “the closest thing to a mob that I’ve ever experienced in my life.” I guess he’s never been to a Cat-Griz game before. Insulting tea party patriots and offering patent lies is the new political speak and modus operandi of the White House. It is a shameful attempt to denigrate us, dismiss our concerns, and project blame. It’s unfortunate because we had some very credible people at the rally including Dr. JD Clark, a local podiatrist who asked Baucus a pressing question about government micromanagement of his practice; Peter O’Reilly, M.D., a retired anesthesiologist; local activists Nick Landeros and Dan Bennett and others spoke during the open mike session.
The scene outside the President’s Town Hall meeting nearly a quarter mile away in the free speech zone was in stark contrast to the kumbaya session inside the hangar. In the field, paid left-wing extremists led by paid members of the SEIU and community organizers, bused down along with Montana AFL-CIO members—the new brownshirts of our tim—were trying to cause havoc. They attempted to goad us into direct conflict; we ultimately refused, regrouped, got on message and blew them into silence once our program began. Some media were present but the stage for this confrontation was purposefully set far away from the President and the media entourage and was barely reported on.
Tea Party protesters and other groups are organizing a 912 rally in Washington, DC and at state capitals throughout the country including the Helena Capital. The bottom line is that we, the people, surround them, the paid union members and their loyalists. We tea-bagged them in Bozeman and will do it again in Helena and around the nation.
Henry Kriegel, a marketing professional, is one of the Bozeman Tea Party organizers and a talk show host of Open Range Thursdays broadcast on KMMS AM1450 from 4:00-600 pm.
Here are some articles that were done about Odumdum's visit to Belgrade MT which you hear them say Bozeman. It was technically Belgrade. I went to the local Belgrade Newspaper to get some information on it since I have been getting so many responding to the True story of what happened here.
Locals must pick up tab for presidential visit
By Andy Malby, editor
When the dust settles and the president, his entourage and the cadre of national media following him around are gone, local agencies will be left with the costs of his visit.
And for some, the tally could ring up into the tens of thousands.
On Thursday, Gallatin County commissioners declared that President Obama's visit to the Gallatin Valley constitutes a 'state of emergency' for the sheriff's office. That enabled them to tap into a $52,000 slush fund to pay the sheriff's costs associated with the visit.......continued at:
Protesters plan to stage 'tea party' rally at airport Friday
By Andy Malby, editor
People opposed to President Barack Obama's efforts to reform health care will stage a 'tea party' protest at Gallatin Field airport during the president's visit there Friday.
'As Barack Obama comes to Gallatin Field tomorrow for his town hall meeting, there will be more than a few Montanans waiting for him to express their displeasure with his plans to take over the nation's health care system, tea party organizer Bob Adney said in a statement Thursday.
'Montanans are coming from across the state to voice dissent to an out-of-control government determined to take over health care in America,' said Adney said, a member of the Bozeman Tea Party committee.
Adney said he expects at least 1,000 people to attend the rally at Airport Road and Frontage Road from 11:30 a.m., to 2:30 p.m...........continued at:
Obama fever grips valley ahead of his Friday visit
By Michael Tucker, staff writer
They began lining up at 3 p.m. Wednesday, the die-hards who refused to be denied tickets to President Barack Obama's planned town hall-style meeting Friday afternoon.
By 7 a.m. Thursday, nearly 300 people were lined up around Belgrade City Hall, hoping to get a crack at tickets for the event. Most were disappointed, sent away empty-handed when the 150 tickets available at City Hall were gone 10 minutes after the doors opened.
By most accounts, folks in line were congenial, though some late arrivals were a little miffed that the tickets were doled out before the announced 9 a.m. hour, Belgrade Police Chief E.J. Clark said. But City Hall had nothing to do with the early distribution and most residents understood that.
'The city of Belgrade never had control of the tickets,' he said after the tickets were gone. 'We asked all day long yesterday and no one told anybody anything. The only people that were upset were the ones that showed up at nine this morning. We were only the distribution point.'
Staffers from U.S. Sen. Max Baucus' Bozeman office were in charge of distributing the tickets and they made the call to start handing them out at 8 a.m., when they drove into town, Belgrade City Finance Director Marilyn Foltz said. Each person was eligible to receive two passes, which meant the first 75 people in line got a shot at seeing the president. ............. contd at
LETTER: Obamacare not about health or care
Today's health care 'reformers' would have you believe they are the compassionate ones; that those opposing 'health care' bills don't care about the poor and the sick.'
They say, 'Something's gotta be done,' and for 'reasons' incomprehensible they believe in the benevolent problem solving capacity of government.'
Historically, the poor have done better under free market capitalist systems, including health care.'Prior to Medicare and Medicaid, physicians gave more free or reduced-rate care to the poor.'Today, though crunched by underpayment from these government programs, physicians donate care valued at over $24 billion annually.
Hospitals give away tens of billions in uncompensated care.'Generous wealthy people and scores of charities, often faith-based, provided for much of the care for the poor before Medicaid. Americans that can't afford medications get help from the pharmaceutical companies via patient assistance programs.' Affordable generic and over-the counter medications are available for most diseases, and there is a Web site that helps locate affordable drugs.''
Besides, under Obamacare, health care will be withheld from those that most need it ' premature infants, senior citizens, cancer patients, and those needing complex surgery ' because their care is not cost effective.'
Bleeding heart 'reformers,' where is your compassion for these?'Is your claim of compassion a lie, or is it there but misplaced because of your blindness?
It is counter-productive to exaggerate and misstate the problem, and absurd to think politicians can solve it.'Honesty and transparency enhance the chances of serving those falling through the cracks.'
Tragically, the Obama administration's agenda of power through enslavement does not tolerate truth.'Fortunately, the health care boondoggle was not passed before we the people got to read it.'Despite the attempts at dumbing us down, we remain capable of figuring things out if we can access truth.
COLUMN: Talking Sense
By John Stossel
Big business goes for big reform
'What disturbs Americans of all ideological persuasions is the fear that almost everything, not just government, is fixed or manipulated by some powerful hidden hand,' Frank Rich wrote in Sunday's New York Times.
That manipulation should disturb us. But contrary to Rich, it is not the work of 'corporatists' who have sprung up to attack progressive reforms proposed by Obama and the Democratic majority.
Manipulation is what we got many years ago when we traded a more or less free market for the 'progressive' interventionist state. When government is big, the well-connected always have an advantage over the rest of us in influencing public policy.
Observe: Although President Obama and big-government activists demonize health-insurance companies, the companies 'are still mostly on board with the president's effort to overhaul the U.S. health-care system,' the Wall Street Journal reports; and ...
Although the activists criticize Big Pharma, 'The drug industry has already contributed millions of dollars to advertising campaigns for the health care overhaul through the advocacy groups like Healthy Economies Now and Families USA. It has spent about $1 million on similar advertisements under its own name,' the Times reports.
Big Pharma and Big Insurance want Obama-style health-care reform?
It's not so hard to understand. 'The drug makers stand to gain millions of new customers,' the Times said.
And from the Journal: 'If health legislation succeeds, the [insurance] industry would likely get a fresh batch of new customers. In particular, many young and healthy people who currently forgo coverage would be forced to sign up.' No wonder insurers are willing to stop 'discriminating' against sick people. (Forget that the essence of insurance is discrimination according to risk.)......continued at:
I just received this from a friend. I'd appreciate your take on this.
First-hand Witness to Staged Obama Town Hall Meeting in Belgrade, Montana
by Sue August 18, 2009
I felt I was not living in the United States of America , more like the USSR !! I was physically nauseous. Joe and I have been around when Presidents or Heads of State visit. It has NEVER been like this. I am truly very frightened for our country. America needs your prayers and your voices. If you care about our country please get involved. Know the issues. And let Congress hear your voices again and again!! If they are willing to put forth so much effort to BULLY a small town one can only imagine what is going on in Washington DC . Scary!!
It was a completely staged and manipulated event but still the only soundbite anyone remembers is the guy getting Obama to admit he's gonna have to raise taxes eventually.
I arrived in Montana last week and I am leaving today.  The following message was forwarded to me from a relative last night.  I am told the source is reliable.  I am posting it in particular because of the SEIU details.  It concerns Barry's visit to Bozeman, MT last Friday:
Subject: Fw: What Really Happened Last Week in Montana
This was sent to me by a friend in Bozeman , MT who was there.
Hello All,
By now you have probably heard that President Obama came to Montana last Friday. However, there are many things that the major news has not covered. I feel that since Bill and I live here and we were at the airport on Friday I should share some facts with you. Whatever you decide to do with the information is up to you. If you chose to share this email with others I do ask that you DELETE my email address before you forward this on.
On Wednesday, August 5th it was announced locally that the President would be coming here. There are many groups here that are against his healthcare and huge spending so those groups began talking and deciding on what they were going to do. The White House would not release ANY details other than the date.
On about Tuesday Bill found out that they would be holding the "Town Hall" at the airport. (This is only because Bill knows EVERYONE at the airport) Our airport is actually located outside of Belgrade (tiny town) in a very remote location. Nothing is around there. They chose to use a hangar that is the most remotely located hangar. You could not pick a more remote location, and you can not get to it easily. It is totally secluded from the public.
FYI: We have many areas in Belgrade and Bozeman which could have held a large amount of folks with sufficient parking. (gymnasiums/auditoriums). All of which have chairs and tables, and would not have to be SHIPPED IN!! $$$$$
During the week, cargo by the TONS was being shipped in constantly. Airport employees could not believe how it just kept coming. Though it was our President coming several expressed how excessive it was, especially during a recession.  $
Late Tuesday/early Wednesday the 12th,  they said that tickets would be handed out on Thursday 9am at two locations and the president would be arriving around 12:30 Friday.
Thursday morning about 600 tickets were passed out. However, 1500 were printed at a Local printing shop per White House request. ......900 tickets just DISAPPEARED.
This same morning someone called into the radio from the local UPS branch and said that THOUSANDS of Dollars of Lobster were shipped in for Obama. Montana has some of the best beef in the nation!!! And it would have been really wonderful to help out the local economy. Anyone heard of the Recession?? Just think...with all of the traveling the White House is doing. $ One can only imagine what else we are paying for.
On Friday Bill and I got out to the airport about 10:45am. The groups that wanted to protest Obama's spending and healthcare had gotten a permit to protest and that area was roped off. But that was not to be. A large bus carrying SEIU (Service Employees International Union) members drove up onto the area (illegal)and unloaded right there. It was quite a commotion and there were specifically 2 SEIU men trying to make trouble and start a fight. Police did get involved and arrested the one man but they said they did not have the manpower to remove the SEIU crowd.
The SEIU crowd was very organized and young. About 99% were under the age of 30 and they were not locals! They had bullhorns and PROFESSIONALLY made signs. Some even wore preprinted T-shirts. Oh, and Planned Parenthood folks were with them.....professing abortion rights with their T-shirts and preprinted signs.  (BTW, all these folks did have a permit to protest in ANOTHER area)
Those against healthcare/spending moved away from the SEIU crowd to avoid confrontation. They were orderly and respectful. Even though SEIU kept coming over and walking through, continuing to be very intimidating and aggressive at the direction of the one SEIU man.
So we had Montana folks from ALL OVER the state with their homemade signs and their DOGS with homemade signs. We had cowboys, nurses, doctors you name it. There was even a guy from Texas who had been driving through. He found out about the occasion, went to the store, made a sign, and came to protest.
If you are wondering about the press.....Well, all of the major networks were over by that remote hangar I mentioned. They were conveniently parked on the other side of the buildings FAR away. None of these crowds were even visible to them. I have my doubts that they knew anything about the crowds.
We did have some local news media around us from this state and Idaho . Speaking of the local media...they were invited. However, all questions were to be turned into the White House in advance of the event. Wouldn't want anyone to have to think off the top of their head.
It was very obvious that it was meant to be totally controlled by the White House. Everything was orchestrated down to the last detail to make it appear that Montana is just crazy for Obama and government healthcare. Even those people that talked about their insurance woes........the White House called our local HRDC (Human Resource and Development Committee) and asked for names. Then the White House asked those folks to come. Smoke and mirrors...EVERYTHING was staged!
I am very dismayed about what I learned about our current White House. The amount of control and manipulation was unbelievable. I felt I was no longer living in the United States of America , more like the USSR !! I was physically nauseous. Bill and I have been around when Presidents or Heads of State visit.
