Anyone know what type of Helicopters those are?, I mean besides "black Helicopters". I was awoken this morning at about 10:00, I thought I was in Viet Nam or something, or that my area was being invaded. So, I look out my window, and saw these things flying right over, shaking my windows and everything. I thought NLE 09 was over, I mean, I know there's another one planned for 2010, but still, I thought 2009's was over already...?

The OH-58 Kiowa, as a scout helicopter, has the primary missions of reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence gathering. The latest version is the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, which has the additional mission capability of target acquisition and/or laser designation. It can operate during the day or night and in adverse weather. Under a program designated Prime Chance, some OH-58Ds have been retrofitted to carry air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons. Just what you want flying around your neighborhood.

The Helos pictured are the Military version of the Bell Jet Ranger II. The MD-500 was built by Hughes and looks like the civilian version which was used in the Magnum PI TV series.
What I did notice in the photos and am curious about is did these Helos spend any time there, like overnight,as I noticed the main rotors on both are tethered to the tail which indicates and extended stay for more than an hour or refueling, just curious. How long were they there?.

Most of the Afternoon. They flew in at 10:30am and didn't leave until about 4:30 or 6:00 can't remember exactly, but they were there from mid morning to late in the afternoon, early evening.

Oh, and once before (this was awhile ago before I knew this type of activity was shiesty) I saw 2 black Huey's land there before, for the same reason; to fuel up. My neighbor who has lived here longer than me said it was the DEA, and they use them to fly over huge empty land areas around here to search for Marijuana grows, and gorilla meth lab set ups. So, I was just wondering if that is true, and if so, if it should be brought to attention, or not....

Like they need more stuff at Camp SLO ... !
-- Kim
P.S. We drove by the airport, but we didn't see anything ... I think we were a day late?SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY REPORT: Kim/Carrie observe military truck delivery Camp San Luis Obispo, CA 8/4/09Suspicious Activity Report!
Observed by Kim & Carrie on August 4, 2009 at ?:8/4/09: While driving southbound on Highway 1 (Central Coast region of California), we just happened to catch a flatbed delivery of Army trucks at the front gate of Camp San Luis Obispo (Army National Guard). We've been keeping an eye on this location & they really seem to be jamming the grounds full of Army trucks, trailers, pods, earth-moving equipment, Humvees, etc.
It wasn't too long ago that Camp SLO was barely being used & it was for that very reason that portions of it were converted into a community college & a regional park. Before 9/11/01, it was possible for civilians to drive through Camp SLO as a short-cut between the college & the city of SLO, but, of course, rural areas like San Luis Obispo county are simply crawling with terrorists, so they had to shut that road down & throw up a chain-link fence ...Operation Overwatch 2009: Army truck delivery Camp San Luis Obispo<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=" http://www.youtube.com/v/D3DT8p2BQzc&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" http://www.youtube.com/v/D3DT8p2BQzc&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

This is interesting. I tend to lean toward the OH-58 Kiowa identification because of the distinctive nose and antenna array. There’s a good, clear image of one in Bosnia on the Wiki page. According to Wiki, the US Army uses: · OH-58A/C o Eagle Flight Detachment, Fort Irwin o Eagle Flight Detachment, Fort Polk o Reconnaissance and Aerial Interdiction Detachments (RAID), 32 states So, what is/was RAID? Under the Army Aviation Modernization Plan (AAMP) and the ongoing Army Aviation Transformation (AAT), the Army's primary OH-58A/C fleet is targeted for retirement by end FY04. Even if some OH-58A/C are temporarily retained past FY04, the Army logistical support base will be of limited use and a diminishing resource until available parts stocks are exhausted. The result is that not later than FY05 123 aging OH-58A aircraft in the Counterdrug Reconnaissance and Aerial Interdiction Detachments (CD RAID) mission will either have to be replaced by a newer series aircraft, or maintained at a significant and steadily increasing cost using commercial parts and contract support because the military will no longer train personnel to support this system.
While no direct validated feasibility study pertaining to CD RAID and the need for a light-twin engine helicopter exists; it is the position of NGB CD RAID to support the continued efforts for a modernized replacement aircraft, however, a maintenance/logistical trail must be included in any purchase and/or lease agreement for this effort. If the Army is unwilling or unable to provide out year OPTEMPO costs for any modernization program authorized by congress then NGB-CD would explore all options including lease agreements to support the requirements of the Governor's State CD Plans. Furthermore, CD RAID has proven itself as a viable asset in the Homeland Defense and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) missions. The authority for the National Guard Counterdrug Support Program (NGB-CD) exists under statutory authority SEC 112, Title 32 United States Code (32 USC 112). NGB Counterdrug Reconnaissance and Aerial Interdiction Detachments (CD RAID) have substantiated a proven need for replacement aircraft to ensure continued support to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/oh-58.htmSo, looks like these A and C model helis are part of an Army National Guard program to support Law Enforcement in 32 states. Camp San Luis Obispo
Camp San Luis Obispo is "the original home of the California National Guard." Camp San Luis Obispo was established in 1928 as a California Army National Guard (CARNG) training camp. It originally totaled 5,800 acres and was known as Camp Merriam. //snip// In response to difficulties in managing civil disorder, the State of California started training National Guard soldiers, together with law enforcement officers, in a course called the "California Civil Disorder Management Course" in September, 1971. Where initially over 60 percent of the people attending California Specialized Training Institute classes were from law enforcement, by 1985 less than 21 percent represented police agencies. Reflecting this shift of emphasis, CSTI was moved in 1985 from the National Guard to the Office of Emergency Services
The National Guard Bureau, as part of the Guard's civil mission to defend against domestic threats, created a proactive youth intervention program for youth 16-18 years of age who have dropped out of school. The pilot program was established in 15 states in 1994 and has proven so successful that it was expanded into five additional states -- including California in Fiscal Year 1998. California's Youth Challenge Program is a rigorous 17 1/2 month military-based youth intervention program conducted by the California National Guard at the Grizzly Academy, Camp San Luis Obispo, California. The program is conducted in conjunction with the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education and operates with the California National Guard's philosophy foremost in mind: Young people who have not been in trouble with the law, but who have made the mistake of quitting school, deserve a second change to become contributing, productive members of society. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/camp-san-luis-obispo.htmAnd there it is. Openly used for management of civil disorder...since 1971.

Sorry for late posting -- Laurie's e-mail did not arrive in my mailbox until today ...
-- KimSUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY REPORT: Laurie observes military convoy northbound 101 Freeway Oxnard/Ventura, CA 8/7/09Observed by Laurie on August 7, 2009 at 8:03 p.m.:Saw 8 -10 military vehicles loaded with troops headed north on the 101 yesterday around 2:15 PM they were passing oxnard blvd and 101 headed north.
