I was doing research for my wife on global warming for a paper that she is writing.  Doing a web search on Sovereignty International, I found this:

"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see a brick wall at the back of the theater."

My  favorite Zappa song.

Who Needs the Peace Corps?

What's there to live for?
Who needs the peace corps?
Think I'll just DROP OUT
I'll go to Frisco
Buy a wig & sleep
On Owsley's floor
Walked past the wig store
Danced at the Fillmore
I'm completely stoned
I'm hippy & I'm trippy
I'm a gypsy on my own
I'll stay a week & get the crabs &
Take a bus back home
I'm really just a phony
But forgive me
'Cause I'm stoned
Every town must have a place
Where phony hippies meet
Psychedelic dungeons
Popping up on every street
GO TO SAN FRANCISCO . . .
How I love ya, How I love ya
How I love ya, How I love ya Frisco!
How I love ya, How I love ya
How I love ya, How I love ya
Oh, my hair is getting good in the back!
Every town must have a place
Where phony hippies meet
Psychedelic dungeons
Popping up on every street
GO TO SAN FRANCISCO . . .
Hotcha!
First I'll buy some beads
And then perhaps a leather band
To go around my head
Some feathers and bells
And a book of Indian lore
I will ask the Chamber Of Commerce
How to get to Haight Street
And smoke an awful lot of dope
I will wander around barefoot
I will have a psychedelic gleam in my eye at all times
I will love everyone
I will love the police as they kick the shit out of me on the street
I will sleep . . .
I will, I will go to a house
That's, that's what I will do
I will go to a house
Where there's a rock & roll band
'Cause the groups all live together
And I will join a rock & roll band
I will be their road manager
And I will stay there with them
And I will get the crabs
But I won't care
Because . . .

heres a few more.....

Fact of the matter is, there is no hip world, there is no straight world. There's a world, you see, which has people in it who believe in a variety of different things. Everybody believes in something and everybody, by virtue of the fact that they believe in something, use that something to support their own existence.

Laughing my ass off watching this clip. At 6:20 Frank refers to John Lofton as "Spank Me". I wish Id of been more of a fan in the 80's! About 11 mins in the neck hair stands up.

In my oppinion, Zappa was way ahead of his time.
He probably was to the powers that were, one of the chairs and tables, and was 'moved out of the way'
Or he just had 'regular' cancer. Sometimes a sigar is just a sigar..

Frank Zappa - PMRC Senate Hearing - Frank saves free speech for all music 1985

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iJgUVq4gPE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUW5hH2BL1E

Although Frank was not targeted with the attempted censoring of music at the time, Frank brought it on himself to put the hammer down and crush the attempted regulation of music by government.  He effectively killed all attempts to regulate the industry in a single senate session.  At the time it was almost a foregone conclusion that government was going to bring in a new system like the MPAA to do the regulation, this would have essentially ended the career of tens of thousands of budding musicians as it had done with filmakers through the MPAA.  Basically the regulation does nothing to protect the US Citizens from manipulative art that can destroy our moral fibre (anyone seen Saw I-IV?), but it creates an unnatural economic barrier to entry that excludes 90% of the artists.  Frank essentially is a great American hero who had the foresight to see the game. He stopped the Senate before they rushed through a decision that would have crippled a piece of America.  Personally, I will never forget this action and everything it must have taken to get him there and to follow up afterwards.

Words are the most or a most powerful tool we have to express ideas and what we are talking about when we talk about censorship is the reppression or surpression of ideas.  So what we are seeing is hegalian theory, where the rap singers and rock artists are preogenitors of filthy ideas in society or music and the government seeing opportunity to surpress ideas.

Bobby Brown was actually about Frank's views on Feminism.  The meat of the song is how through feminism the main character becomes gay.  In a simplistic and allegorical way, he was stating his opinion that feminism, and the purposeful homosexualisation of youth going on in the media was all part of the government's over all eugenics program of depopulation.  The album Thing Fish which is mainly about AIDS also adresses these issues in depth (and in his wildly absurd, and vulgar way.)

Thank you!  Yes he has, although the influence is hard to peg, when I first heard him my initial reaction was "SOMEONE BEAT ME TO IT!!!! DECADES BEFORE I WAS BORN!"  and from there realised, no, he was lightyears ahead of anything I imagined.   My personal favorite is Joe's Garage.  The government criminalising music as a way to incarcerate the entire population, leaving the lead character to by albums end stumble through societies mounds of broken consumer goods imagining guitar solos in his head.  Just a brilliant album.  Other than that, my personal taste is the You Can't Do that on Stage Anymore series, I think his live bands were the greatest thing on Earth, better energy than the recorded work, free yet tight as anything!!!!  For the greatest guitar solo in the history of the universe, and an all round amazing album, buy You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore volume two.   For hard Core politics, you'd do best with Thing-Fish or Broadway the Hardway.  They are all amazing though, and also, really depends on what your interests are, in his 30 years of recording music, he touched on just about everything.

im so impressed with Frank Zappa. i regret not hearing or seeing anything from him until recently.

i like the way he argues for the constitution, for individual rights, and just the way he does it. so calm and collected, i mean, you can see he is trynig hard, but its in a sincere, and honest kind of way. its like he is just trying to be honest. kinda reminds me of Ron Paul.

That had to do with his overall philosophy of life.  His advice was, "don't expect anything. Don't expect friends.  Don't expect love.  Don't expect wealth.  Don't expect a good time.  Then when anything happens, it's all a bonus."  I think that perspective helped him to accept the miserable state of society, and instead of getting enraged, he could calmly deal with it and try to adress the problems at hand.

Zappa had that arguement done and dusted in the first two minutes, and as always the rest resort to cheap, childish personal attacks.

i like how he talked about politics, he had a deep sense for individual rights, and what it means to have freedom. and such a manner with it too. he was unfazed by their astonishment and excuses, and knew all he had to do was bring it back to the individual, bring it back to the constitution.
