Kudos to obama.

The U.S. military is planning to intercept a flagged North Korean ship suspected of proliferating weapons material in violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution passed last Friday, FOX News has learned.

The USS John McCain, a navy destroyer, will intercept the ship Kang Nam as soon as it leaves the vicinity off the coast of China, according to a senior U.S. defense official. The order to inderdict has not been given yet, but the ship is getting into position.

The ship left a port in North Korea Wednesday and appears to be heading toward Singapore, according to a senior U.S. military source. The vessel, which the military has been tracking since its departure, could be carrying weaponry, missile parts or nuclear materials, a violation of U.N. Resolution 1874, which put sanctions in place against Pyongyang.

The USS McCain was involved in an incident with a Chinese sub last Friday - near Subic Bay off the Philippines.

The Chinese sub was shadowing the destroyer when it hit the underwater sonar array that the USS McCain was towing behind it.

That same navy destroyer that was being shadowed by the Chinese is now positioning itself for a possible interdiction of the North Korean vessel.

This is the first suspected "proliferator" that the U.S. and its allies have tracked from North Korea since the United Nations authorized the world's navies to enforce compliance with a variety of U.N. sanctions aimed at punishing North Korea for its recent nuclear test.

The ship is currently along the coast of China and being monitored around-the-clock by air.

The apparent violation raises the question of how the United States and its allies will respond, particularly since the U.N. resolution does not have a lot of teeth to it.

The resolution would not allow the United States to board the ship forcibly. Rather, U.S. military would have to request permission to board -- a request North Korea is unlikely to grant.

North Korea has said that any attempt to board its ships would be viewed as an act of war and promised "100- or 1,000-fold" retaliation if provoked.

The U.S. military may also request that the host country not provide fuel to the ship when it enters its port.

The Kang Nam is known to be a ship that has been involved in proliferation activities in the past -- it is "a repeat offender," according to one military source. The ship was detained in October 2006 by authorities in Hong Kong after the North Koreans tested their first nuclear device and the U.N. imposed a subsequent round of sanctions.

The latest tension follows a Japanese news report that North Korea may fire a long-range ballistic missile toward Hawaii in early July.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday the military is "watching" that situation "very closely," and would have "some concerns" if North Korea launched a missile in the direction of Hawaii. But he expressed confidence in U.S. ability to handle such a launch.

Gates said he's directed the deployment of the Theater High Altitude Area Defense, a mobile missile defense system used for knocking down long- and medium-range missiles.

"The ground-based interceptors are clearly in a position to take action. So, without telegraphing what we will do, I would just say ... I think we are in a good position, should it become necessary, to protect the American territory."

if they aren't, god help the residents of Seoul. North Korea would wipe it off the map in a first strike.

Not if reunification is the goal. Wouldn't make sense.

Yep - on a side note, this goes further to prove that FOX supports the *neocon* agenda, regardless of who's "party" is in the White House.

Who knows? When all the "Democrats" start hearing word over how FOX "supposedly doesn't lean to the right anymore", it'll be their turn to get brainwashed by the neocon agenda.

Here's a twist: video report included

'Assassination plot' in N Korea power struggle
As the West tries to determine North Korea's next move, there are rumours of a plot brewing in the country's highest levels. It is a story of palace intrigue that could be set in the middle ages, and as Al Jazeera's Tony Cheng finds, it pits brother against brother, with murder as the ultimate means to power.

USS John McCain to Intercept North Korean Ship thought to be carrying Weapons

The USS John McCain is moving into position and preparing to intercept a North Korean flagged ship that is thought to be carrying weapons.

The US military has been tracking a ship since it left a North Korean port Wednesday and is believed to be headed for Singapore. The USS John McCain, a navy destroyer, will intercept the ship, Kang Nam, as soon as it leaves North Korean waters off the coast of China. The ship is believed to be carrying weapons, missile components or nuclear materials, which is in direct violation of UN Resolution 1874 which put sanctions in place against Pyongyang Friday.

According to a senior U.S. defense official. the order has not yet been officially given to confront the vessel, but the US destroyer is moving into position.

This will be the first direct military contact with North Korea since tensions started to heat up recently when the north detonated a nuclear device underground in the region in May. North Korea has also been test firing short range missiles and has threatened to declare war against any country who interferes with their weapons and nuclear development efforts.

USS John McCain: Mission attempted
http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2009/06/uss_john_mccain_mission_attemp.html

"Fortune favors the brave'' is the motto of this ship named for admirals

The John McCain is headed toward North Korea.

Not the senator - not the Republican nominee for president last year -- but rather the Naval destroyer named for his father and grandfather, admirals of the Navy.

The U.S. military is planning to intercept a flagged North Korean ship suspected of proliferating weapons material in violation of a United Nations. Security Council resolution passed last Friday, FOX News reports today.

"The USS John McCain will intercept the ship Kang Nam as soon as it leaves the vicinity off the coast of China, according to a senior U.S. defense official. The order to inderdict has not been given yet, but the ship is getting into position.

"The North Korean vessel left port Wednesday and appears to be heading toward Singapore, according to a senior U.S. military source. The vessel, which the military has been tracking since its departure, could be carrying weaponry, missile parts or nuclear materials, a violation of U.N. Resolution 1874, which put sanctions in place against Pyongyang.''

The American vessel is the second named for a father and son pair of admirals and graduates of the U.S. Naval Academy, which also graduated the senator from Arizona and most recently his son, John S. McCain IV, who was greeted at his commencement in Annapolis this year by the speaker, President Barack Obama, who defeated the senator in last year's election.

(USS John McCain: Navy photo)

The first of two naval destroyers named for the admirals, the USS John S. McCain, had been commissioned in 1953.

The senator's grandfather, born and raised on a Mississippi plantation, became a Navy pilot and served in the Pacific in the summer of 1944 as commander of the Second Fast Carrier Force. Awarded the Navy Cross, he attended the signing of the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri in August 1945.

The senator's father, born in Iowa, became Commander-in-Chief of Pacific Command in 1968, as the Vietnam War reached its height. He attained that command soon after his son, a young bomber pilot from the carrier Oriskany, was shot down over Hanoi and taken captive by the North Vietnamese. The admiral served as CINCPAC throughout his son's imprisonment.

The first ship named for the admirals was sold for scrap in 1980.

The second, the guided missile destroyer USS John S. McCain, was commissioned in 1994. The son and grandson of the ship's namesakes, McCain's Sr. and Jr., the senator, McCain III, attended with his wife.

The USS McCain was involved in an incident with a Chinese sub last Friday - near Subic Bay off the Philippines. The Chinese sub was shadowing the destroyer when it hit the underwater sonar array that the USS McCain was towing behind it.

That same navy destroyer that was being shadowed by the Chinese is now positioning itself for a possible interdiction of the North Korean vessel

It might be the real or fake crisis that biden talked about within 6 months of the obama administration.

You mean "Obama's War?"

Obama War: USS John S McCain versus North Korean Ship, Kang Nam
By McCain

So much for talking with terrorists. Barack Obama’s defense department has ordered the USS John McCain to intercept a North Korean warship named “Kang Nam” suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction. The threat of an Obama War comes one day after North Korea is reportedly ready to fire a missile at Hawaii. See the video and photos below.

The USS John S. McCain is an Aegis guided missile destroyer in the US Navy, Arleigh Burke class (Flight I), named after the father and grandfather of Senator John McCain, John S. McCain, Jr. and John S. McCain, Sr. They were both 4-star Admirals and decorated war heroes like the Senator. The ship’s port is Yokosuka Naval Base in Yokosuka Japan. This is the same ship that collided with a Chinese submarine on June 11th, 2009.

One hopes that world realities are beginning to sink in with this White House, where it was once hoped that youthful exuberance would substitute for learned diplomacy. Not so fast.

The reality is that bad guys in the world want to stir up trouble to pacify their own populations. They need bogeymen like the United States of America to serve as foils for their own problems. The recipe is used in all totalitarian states from Iran to North Korea. They don’t want to “talk” with Barack Obama. They want a weak-kneed president who let’s them get away with hostility.

Many analysts watched in alarm during the election season when Barack Obama proposed talking without preconditions with dictatorial regimes. Such a proposal can only come from an extreme moral relativist, one who puts his own democratic country on an even playing field with the darkest nations on earth. It ignores the reality of our superior position and influence, and the motivations of our enemies.

So the navy destroyer USS John McCain is steaming toward destiny with the Kang Nam, a North Korean ship, on the precipice of an Obama War, a date with destiny that would have been avoided with a stronger, consistent message from the United States. Godspeed to the brave men aboard. May they be wiser than their commander in chief.

A video of the John S. McCain destroyer along with more photos are below.

Highly doubt that.

Fearmongering about nukes is pretty standard fare -- if blackjack was psyoping about killer planet X or something... I could see it. (provided FOX started reporting about Planet X going to get us)

Is the Navy ship's named after the man who ran for the US Presidential election?
If this is the case, why and how did John McCain deserve such honour to have a Navy ship named after him?  Roll Eyes
Was he some kind of war hero in Vietnam or something?
What are the facts that determine that this man is truly a war hero?  Huh
