WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Microsoft's security chief and a veteran of Clinton's and Bush's national security teams are leading candidates for cybersecurity czar, a job that needs White House access and clout to protect networks that underpin the U.S. economy.

President Barack Obama promised last month that he would personally decide who would lead the fight against an epidemic of cybercrime and organize a response to any major cyber attack.

A leading candidate for the post is Scott Charney, head of Microsoft's cybersecurity division, who has said he won't take the job, according to a source who had direct knowledge of the matter but was not authorized to discuss it. The source said, however, that Charney would change his mind if pressed.

Charney also led PricewaterhouseCoopers' cybercrime unit and headed the Justice Department's computer crime section.

His main competitor is likely Paul Kurtz, who led Obama's cybersecurity transition team and who worked on the National Security Council under both Bush and Clinton, the source said.

Well we wondered if the next attack might be a cyber attack.

With that appointment it looks like it is on the cards.

Why else appoint such an appalling "Security Expert" as "Microsoft's Security Chief"... Microsoft and Security is an oxymoron like "Military and Intelligence".

I would also like to point out that in effect his chief skill is blame shifting from those really reprehensible.
Is that a big clue or what ?

Perhaps Anti-Illuminati would like to comment, he is a far better skilled author and has the technical brains to thread this together. Me, I need more coffee to recover from the shock, I foresee some very evil side effects. Just like 911 was not about the planes or some idiot in a cave, but about Corp Profits, Dept of Homeland Security, Big Brother and shutting down intelligent debate in a free and open society.

Microsoft's Security reminds me of the USA's Border Patrol and illegal immigration issues.  Because they do two things, avoid sensible security controls and shift the blame with psych warfare by applying the label 'racist' to any constructive critisim.

Microsoft's Security policy has been to apply spin, blame shifting, lawyers and public relations officers instead of actually spending time or money on fixing security concerns. In fact they are negligent, like being aware of vulnerability and refusing to tell anyone or supply fixes for months.

Why would they consider having a Microsoft shill running the government cybersecurity task force? Maybe they will stage a false-flag cyberattack and blame it on Chinese computers running Linux and use that as an excuse to ban Linux as a cyberterrorist weapon.

Yes I need more time to think about it, but in essence look at Internet 2 and what is happening in China.

Please read up on shibboleth its the proposed security model for internet2. It might also amuse you that of course when they want some thing really secure they use the open source model to get as many eyeballs as possible on the code.

The spin put on how it protects your privacy is hilarious and a classic case of sophistry (In the modern definition, a sophism is a confusing or illogical argument used for deceiving someone.).

They will implement this at an ISP level, so you wont be able to get out about on the internet without using shibboleth, at least that is my prediction.

I wish Anti-illuminati was about to comment
