My personal beliefs tell me the root of it all is the love of money...
and the best way to fuel this LOVE OF MONEY is to MINIMISE YOUR COSTS (low wages and little R&D), USE THE TAX SYSTEM (corporation owners rarely pay income tax) and CHARGE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN (because it's all you deserve for buying that shit).

Leftyleo, I think in the realm of games, what you see as creativity vs. greed is more about a debate between "art" and what people will buy, simply because it's fun.
& of course I know it can take years to go from game concept to final product.
Not that different than what goes on in Hollywood.
I'd just like to know of an example of what you'd consider a creative game? I've purchased things like "Linger in Shadows" for the PS3, just because it looked cool but is more of an interactive piece of art than a game.

Yeah, the "art debate" is a huge part of the process. But issues arise with who is in the position of making that final creative decision, and that decision is usually made by corporate officials based on costs, not what is considered art by the art department. Artistic license for top shelf games goes only so far as your cash will take you! There is a balance that is hard to reach effectively. No real differences anymore from Hollywood. And I will say Hollywood getting involved in games has been a good thing. A game is in fact a form of storytelling, and theres no better at it than Hollywood. And they bring in a TON of money, which does give more artists a job. They also bring with them a lot of technical skills that has really helped. A creative game? Honestly, I can't speak much of games other than FPS types, and some RPG's. I never was much into casual games, 2d stuff, sidescrollers or the like. I honestly think that one of the most creative games out there is the Half-Life series because of the use of gravity as an element to interacting with objects in the game. You should really check out "Gary's Mod", and some of the videos people have made using that mod. Talk about creativity! The move to a seperate physics card like Ageia's "PhysX" card I think is the future of pc gaming. This will allow for some awesome interaction with the game environment, taking the processing load off the main cpus, just like with a graphics card. Console gaming though looks to be the way of the future for the general public. These consoles are becoming the media hub of a home, rather than just a kids game.

I think you may underestimate what's available or what's coming.
The Darkness was a very cool game.
Heavy Rain has very interesting look to it... appears to be story driven.
The Assassin's Creed series is shaping up to be very good.
And many games are now letting you make real game play changing choices about ethical choices you make in the game and how that affects your character.
You're right about the entertainment hub being the console... that was my 1st reason to even get a PS3, that I've found some games beyond that was a bonus.

The drive for profits, rather than creativity, drives the industry these days. That's the nature of man.
That is the nature of the ego, the polarity they have us all thinking with, not the nature of man.

well, no, it's the same with your stupid Nike trainers - footwear that's made in the same factories in India using the same fabrication techniques, glue, materials and stitching - except you're TOLD that these f**king NIKE trainers are much better. I've had Nike trainers, they fall to pieces. Also, you're TOLD what games to buy, like you're TOLD what cars to buy, what beer, what TV. Sorry, you're a consumer race under constant attack from advertising and marketing. Bill Hicks (as always) had the right idea about these cronies, KILL YOURSELVES. No joke. Seriously, you're shoving bile and garbage down our childrens throat in the name of PROFIT.

Your biometric profile will be enough. Your stance, your face, your shape, your voice. No need for a retinal or thumb print.
The control grid will not be forced upon us. It will be begged for.
Bought and paid for for in the name of entertainment.

Actually they can be loaded with Linux . Then you can put the Apache Webserver onboard. Then you can leave it running 24/7/365 as it wont chew to much electric or make to much noise. I've even seen XBox as a BeoWulf "Cluster" / "Super Computer"....

Once upon a time people gathered and discussed the nations position, economics, constitution, town meetings were jam packed etc..
I may be cynical, but now, we have TV, playstations, xboxes, and every form of entertainment to keep one housebound and in the dark.
I will not knock the internett, its todays newspaper, the one and only one I give creedance to.
