Let's talk Taliban... there's an offensive going on in Pakistan that Clinton is huffing and puffing about, though it's buried under all this ManPigBird flu news.

We know that the US airlifted the Taliban out of Afghanistan and into the Pakistani tribal areas during the invasion of Afghanistan, in the infamous 'airlift of evil'.

We know that the CIA funded these same insurgent groups - then known as 'muhajideen' - during the Russian war in Afghanistan.

We know, from a Press TV report, that the CIA maintains secret bases in Pakistan for their drone fleet and god knows what else.

We know that the ISI - a client organization of the CIA - is running 'terrorist camps' in Pakistan as Omar Khyam revealed. (The two muslims convicted yesterday in Britain were just about to get on a plane to attend one of these camps when they were grabbed - conveniently.)

And finally, we know that the CIA isn't averse to funding insurgent groups within Iran to destabilize the region, generally, as Sy Hersh has reported.

So is it safe to assume that what we're seeing is a nice bit of war theatre, starring American intelligence's Islamic pawns versus Pakistan's paramilitary, the Frontier Corps? (And why wouldn't they field their regulars for this operation?) They've been bombing the hell out of their villages up there, so either they're fronting them directly or deliberately flushing them out.

I have the 'gut' feeling that this is part of the overall pretext for an eventual invasion (another one) by American forces.

What do you think? Is that about right?
