The story Murdoch's site published:

http://www.news.com.au/mercury/story/0,22884,22573763-5005940,00.html

The Fred Thompson supporter is laughing about it--he made up the fake news release which they published:

http://www.fredthompsonforum.com/showthread.php?t=1851

This resulted in a story on PrisonPlanet.com--if you have contact with Steve Watson, ask him to fix it asap.

Guys, guys... whoever's running that forum, it isn't Fred Thompson supporters. I mean, c'mon. Have you looked at the posts in there? They're freaking hilarious. "What's the Constitution Good For", "Needs More Fearmongering", "Speech Isn't Free People". Monica Lewinsky and Ted Kaczynski are big FredHeads. It's obviously a way to drive traffic to Ron Paul's stuff, of which there is a MASSIVE repository on this forum.

Look at what this guy wrote, who's obviously not in on the joke:

> Please don't congratulate yourselves as this type of behavior is unacceptable and a big embarrassment
> to the Fred campaign. What kind of example are we trying to set?!?! Maybe you guys should spend more
> time trying to find productive ways to support your candidate instead of creating fake articles about
> others. If anything you have exposed one hell of a powerful video of Ron Paul to millions of Australians.
> Give yourselves a pat on the back for THINKING... next time DONT!

So if it's yours - good job, very viral of you. Now cut it out. It's a distraction from the issues, it's not an honest way to conduct the dialogue and it makes us look ridiculous. At least, that's my 50 cents (adjusted for inflation).

It doesn't matter who they do or do not support--sending fake anti Ron Paul press releases if f***ing with our democracy, and if it's picked up as fact by another news agency, there's gonna be hell to pay.

Quote
WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR FRED THOMPSON.
Fred Supports the Draft
Fred supports, and has voted for, more gun control.
Fred voted for the Patriot Act.
Fred will increase Torture of terrorists!
Fred will NUKE the iranian scum off the planet.
Fred will send all Muslims to GITMO
Fred has a 22 year old hot wife
FRED SUPPORTS THE NORTH AMERICAN UNION
Are these people serious Fred Thompson supporters or is this some kind of parody?

Well, the other possibility we need to consider is that they're simply SAYING they faked the news article.

I've gone ahead and politely contacted the source quoted in the article - Prof BeDats, not DeBots - which will confirm if the article is fake IF he denies making the quote. If he confirms the quote, it's likelier that it was put out by a Fox staff writer.

I should point out, too, that Mark Schleibs (the writer) has a two-article history with this paper, which in and of itself should put the issue to rest.

In the article he's called De Bots as in the fake press release, not De Bats as in the University staff directory.

Whichever way it goes, an interview with Professor De Bats would be a good story for Prison Planet.

Name Telephone Position Department
De Bats , Don Prof  12358 Head, American Studies Department Faculty of Social Sciences, American Studies Department
