Vote in CNN poll

On the right side of the page, about a quarter of the way down:

Do agree with Ron Paul that it's OK for state officials to talk about seceding from the union?

Come on guys, time to turn the group psychology around 180 degrees! Ron Paul says secession is actually pretty patriotic, so now it's no longer a plan for American genocide, it's now patriotic!

Seriously though, I wonder how people will react to this. Perhaps Ron Paul is now as unpatriotic as Rick Perry. Or perhaps he's actually right. Or perhaps Ron Paul got something wrong, but he's still patriotic, while Rick Perry has always been unpatriotic because he works for a bunch of mass murderers.

I don't know, I'm just wondering what you'll think.

RP was speaking in generalities.

The people always have the right and duty to "alter or abolish" a government that has become destructive to the ends of secruing individual rights.

Secession, although some here would strongly disagree, is just another way, a strong way, the political "nuclear option" of "altering or abolishing".

It isn't "just another way," it is the final way, after all else within the Constitution and law, has been exhausted... we are not there yet, and if pursued before it is it's time,  we will once again find ourselves the Divided States of America.

Before the Declaration of Independence was ever signed, secession from the crown had to be unanimous or there would be no declaration... the Founders were resolute against civil war... we should be so wise.

Coyoté

"The right of civilians in a free society to possess "military-looking," or even
actual military weapons, is essential if a monopoly of force is not to reside in
the hands of government, where modern history shows the potential for far
greater abuses and crimes exists than are possible for any deranged individual."
Aymette v. State, 21 Tenn. Reports 154 (1840)
cited in U.S. v. Miller, 307 U.S. 174 (1939)
