]Senate set to vote on border fence amendment in immigration bill
By Stephen Dinan
Washington Times
June 18, 2013

A  week into the immigration debate, the Senate has finally set up showdowns Tuesday afternoon on some of the biggest questions, including whether to build the full 700-mile fence Congress approved seven years ago, but never followed through on.

Sen. John Thune, South Dakota Republican, has offered an amendment that would require 350 miles of two-tier border fencing be built before illegal immigrants can gain legal status, and for another 350 miles to be built before they can get green cards
...
the border now has 651 miles of barriers, and only 352 miles of that is an actual fence to keep pedestrians out. The other 299 miles are vehicle blockades that still allow wildlife, and people, to cross unhindered
...
Senators will also vote Tuesday on three other amendments: One would expand immigration benefits for adoptees, another would add Indian tribe representatives to a border oversight panel, and a third would stop any legalization until the government completes a biometric entry-exit system that Congress first demanded in 1996, but which is still undone.

It's about time we updated our constitution to match British standards.

Now we just need the supreme court to declare us a British colony.

In 2005 they ruled that you have no property rights in (Kelo v. City of New London)

In 2006 they ruled the police can enter your house without announcing themselves (Hudson v. Michigan).

In 2011 they ruled that the police can knock on your door without cause then enter your house without warrant if they believe evidence is being destroyed. (Kentucky v. King)

The problem here, is that the Court doesn't have the power to create law, nor the power to enforce it. They can only lay down decisions that interpret the law which sets precedent beyond the specific case, but enforcement is up to Congress.

There will always be a dissenting opinion, as is the case in each of the rulings you cite. Also, in all cases it is the people who have the final say... the Ninth Amendment has seen to that... now to ween the people off of the "sweet lies" squirting from the TV and iphone teat...

one in which it was passed.''

Gun Control Works In Chicago, Leaves 47 Shot , Eight Dead, Over Weekend

http://wwwwakeupamericans-spree.blogspot.com/2013/06/gun-control-works-in-chicago-leaves-47.html#.UcBA0_nqmSo

By Susan Duclos

Take guns away from law abiding citizens and criminals are the ones that benefit. That is how gun control works and it worked exactly like that last weekend in Chicago, Illinois, a state and city with some of the toughest gun control laws in the nation. Those gun control laws work so well that Chicago saw 47 people shot last weekend with eight killed.

At least 34 people were shot — seven of them fatally — Saturday afternoon through Father's Day Sunday, stretching from 94th Street and Loomis Avenue on the South Side up to about North Avenue and North Pulaski Road on the Northwest Side, according to authorities. The youngest person killed during one of the bloodiest weekends in Chicago this year, 15-year-old Michael Westley, was fatally shot by a police officer Sunday night.

Shootings from Friday afternoon into Saturday left another 13 people shot, 1 fatally. The combined tally resulted in 47 people shot, and seven killed this weekend. Last year at about the same time, there were 53 people shot, nine fatally in one weekend.

The Chicago Tribune points out "The rash of violent crime came as Chicago has seen a large dip in overall homicide and shooting numbers so far this year," without mention of crimes rates across the country consistently spiking during the Summer months when the heat becomes unbearable and violent crime renders previous totals obsolete as the Summer totals are averaged in to yearly figures.

Contrary to Barack Obama, Michael Bloomberg and liberals' assertions, gun control does not reduce violence, it only leaves citizens unable to protect themselves, which makes them more desirable targets for criminals who never will obey gun control laws.

Gas plant explosion in Washington Parish

Jay Vise Reporting
An explosion rocked Washington Parish this morning when fire erupted at a Florida Gas facility south of Franklinton.

The glow was visible across the Northshore and as far away as Metairie and Chalmette.

Louisiana Fire Marshal Butch Browning says no one was injured and the scene is "under control."  He says the gas pipe line was quickly turned off.  The cause of the blast is under investigation.

Officials worked to evacuate residents in a one mile area around Lee Road and LA 1072 where the Florida Gas facility is located in Washington Parish.

The incident knocked out power to 10,000 customers of Washington-St. Tammany Electric Co-op.  Most were restored by 7:00am.

EXCLUSIVE: Hidden camera catches wireless company employees passing out 'Obama phones' to people who say they'll SELL them for drugs, shoes, handbags and spending cash

The 'Lifeline' free-cell-phone scheme cost $2.2 BILLION last year alone, all of it from fees added to the phone bills of paying customers
The biggest beneficiary other than low-income consumers is billionaire Carlos Slim Helu, whose TracFone has collected $1.5 BILLION to date

One company told MailOnline it will fire a salesperson who laughed uproariously when a woman said she would sell her phone to buy shoes
Conservative firebrand James O'Keefe sent undercover actors to pose as 'Obama phone' seekers aiming to sell the goods; no one turned them down

Legislation in Congress would remove the cell phone component of the program, which launched in 1984 and covered only land lines until 2008

Undercover video shot in May by a conservative activist shows two corporate distributors of free cell phones handing out the mobile devices to people who have promised to sell them for drug money, to buy shoes and handbags, to pay off their bills, or just for extra spending cash.

The 'Obama phone,' which made its ignominious YouTube debut outside a Cleveland, Ohio presidential campaign event last September, is a project of the Federal Communications Commission's 'Lifeline' program, which makes land line and mobile phones available to Americans who meet low-income requirements.

Lifeline was a $2.19 billion program in 2012.

...

But when James O'Keefe, whose Project Veritas is a perennial thorn in the side of progressive policymakers, sent an undercover actor into a Stand Up Wireless location in Philadelphia, the man's stated purpose was to buy drugs.

'Once you guys give me this phone, it's my phone?' he asked an employee inside a Philadelphia brick-and-mortal Stand Up Wireless location. 'I can, like, sell it and stuff?' 'Whatever you want to do with it,' the worker replied. 'So I'm [going to] get some money for heroin,' he offered. The employee coolly responded, 'Hey, I don't judge
